Liquid Therapy: new wine tastings for 2014

wine glasses 300x201 Liquid Therapy: new wine tastings for 2014London – Therapy of the liquid kind comes in the form of the new wine tasting dinners from Euposia, a club specialising in convivial yet informative events.

For those wanting to focus on a new skill in 2014 without sacrificing their social life, this is probably one of the most enjoyable ways of learning the art of wine tasting. The idea behind the events is not only to learn about wine, but also to enjoy the way it complements good food in the company of like-minded people.

To tempt jaded palates after the January blues, February offers a Taste of the Rhone with food to match, at renowned restaurant Bradley’s NW3, described in food guides as ‘one of North London’s best kept secrets’.

Owner Simon Bradley’s hospitable atmosphere and top-notch cuisine, is the perfect setting for showcasing wines such as Plain Sud Viognier Cotes du Rhone 2011, a typical expression of this grape, with stone and tropical fruit characters, a subtle spiciness and a precise mineral finish. This will be paired with Mousseline of Pike with Crayfish and Leek Fondue. La Cuvee du Belvedere Cairanne Rhone 2010, a ruby red beauty full of cassis and spice, is perfect to carry the richness of Breast of Guinea fowl, Confit Leg Lyonnais, cabbage and salsify. A delicious Apple Millefeuille with Nougat glace’ is served with a chilled glass of Beaumes de Venise, Vieille Vignes Domaine de Durban 2010, a complex wine imbued with the flavour of red fruits and rich, earth textures. The dinner also includes a delicious Kir Royale aperitif.

Tasting techniques, grape varieties and the wines are discussed over dinner with the help of a wine expert. The speaker creates an atmosphere which is friendly and informal, and where no special wine knowledge is required.

Priced at £55 per person with no hidden extras, the dinners include a glass each of four different, quality wines, a three course meal, service, VAT tasting notes and the speaker. The events start at 7 pm attract singles who come to meet new people, friends and families and groups of colleagues who come to enjoy a different night out.

The next dinner event will take place on Monday 24 March at a new restaurant in the City, whilst on Wednesday 2 April there will be a tasting-only of Vinho Verde, with the opportunity of tasting over 100 wines for the nominal price of £10

Run with passion by a wine enthusiast, Luisa Vogliolo-Welch, Euposia has grown to become a wine tasting dinner ‘club’, offering new venues, good food and undiscovered gems from the world’s best vineyards. The name is based on a Greek word which loosely translates as ‘the enjoyment of good imbibing’
