Abruzzo Live in London on 14 april

London – Gambero Rosso, the leading company in the food and wine sector in Italy and Consorzio Tutela Vini D’Abruzzo, bring the wine world of this time-honoured region to London for an exclusive event, taking place at The Gibson Hall, 13 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 3BA on 14 April, 13.30 to 18.30.
On the day, 50 Abruzzese wineries will come together to present their best wines, displaying a remarkable oenological overview, and offering an exceptional opportunity to get to know and compare the vast riches of the region’s top quality production.
From the region’s flagship wine Montepulciano D’Abruzzo, the second best-selling wine in Italy, to other great varieties such as Montepulciano Cerasuolo, Trebbiano D’Abruzzo, and Pecorino, visitors will find an exciting range of varieties and styles that demonstrate the complexity of the different territories and microclimates of Abruzzo. The vineyards can either touch the Adriatic sea or the glaciers of the natural reserves of Majella and Gran Sasso: few Italian regions can offer wines with such diverse characters, and attractive quality/price ratio, food-friendly wines for the everyday table or for special occasions.
Producers such as Casa Thaulero, dating back to the 16th century and taken over in 1961 by local winegrowers to let its honourable history of winemaking live on, will present its Borgo Thaulero range specially for restaurants. Feudo Antico, created to give new dignity and image to the winemaking of Abruzzo, will taste its Passerina, Pecorino and Rosso Riserva among others. Emidio Pepe’s Organic Biodynamic & Vegan wines, distinct and singular, made in a super traditional style, have gained cult following and will be on show on Monday 14th April.
Renowned wine taster and editor of Vini D’Italia Guide Marco Sabellico will tutor the two masterclasses on offer during the day.
Chelsea’s Terra Vergine – the restaurant that has become the ambassador of Abruzzese cuisine in London – will present a series of regional dishes that, over the centuries, have perfectly paired with local wines. This will be a true Festa Dell’Abruzzo but also an opportunity to experience styles and variations of these truly exceptional wines.
